Curious Collective Shawl Project: Week 2 Poll

Helen —  May 26, 2013 — 25 Comments

Welcome to Week 2 of the Curious Collective Shawl Project!

This week we are going to decide on the shape of the shawl. I have given you a choice of three basic shapes. Within those broad shapes there are a lot of possible variations. For example for semicircular, I am also thinking about crescent shapes here. Triangular can be regular, wide, rounded – there are really a lot of possibilities.

If you have other ideas that you want to expand on, please add them in the blog comments.

After the poll was such a nail-biter last week I am so excited to see what the results are this time! I will close the poll at Midday Friday 31 March May (GMT). (oops!)

So go ahead, vote, comment, share with your friends!

You can join in at any time!

Important message for people who signed up early on last Sunday. When I first posted the project on Ravelry it was as a free pattern. However, I was quickly told that when I changed it over to a paid pattern, those who had signed up when it was free wouldn’t be on the list for updates any more.

So if you are one of the 100 or so that signed up before I was aware of that problem could you please message me on Ravelry at HellsBells. I will then send you and updated pattern so you will still get all the updates and final pattern. I have just sent out an update to the pattern for Week 2, so if you didn’t receive an email with this update then you are one of the early birds.

  1. This is s much fun! I voted triangular. And when I voted it was 50% semicircle and 50% triangular (0 rectangular). Very even, and very exiting.

  2. I’m hoping for crescent shape!

  3. I voted for semi-circular, and I’d like Faroese shaping around the neck.

  4. It’s so fun to vote and very exciting to then see what it leads to. What I would really need is a large shawl that remains on the shoulders even though it’s a bit windy outside. So a Faroese Shawl would be absolutely perfect. But now I’ll decide what I’m going to vote for this week.

  5. Love to see a crescent shape also

  6. voting for a cresent shape

    I voted for triangle.

I would like to see a more crescent or heart shaping by making twice as many increases along the edge as along the spine if it made top down. This provides coverage in the front without bunching at the back neck.

  8. I’d prefer the shawl to be faroese shape or crescent shape – voted for triangle…

  9. I hope we aren’t waiting until next March to see this week’s results! 😉

  10. I’d add my vote for crescent if it became available, too! I’m enjoying playing along!

  11. I voted for rectangle. Its been a while since I’ve seen a good one. Nonetheless, all the shapes are good choices

  12. I voted for semicircle, but I love the crescent shape too.

  13. I voted for the semicircle shape also. I am more concerned that the shawl of any shape have shoulder shaping. Nothing worse than shawls that go anywhere except where you put them!

    • Once more thought: since the voting was so close on the last poll why not include some lace with the texture stitches?

  14. As with many other comments, I really prefer crescent shape shawls. I voted semicircle since its close to crescent.

  15. Seems like many of us, at least those who are leaving comments, would like a crescent shaped shawl. I voted for semi-circular, but really would rather it be more of a crescent or rounded triangle. I love the idea of a mostly textured shawl with a little lace, as ItzMe suggested.

  16. Going against the crowd, I voted for rectangular, but I am sure I will be thrilled with the final design.

What a unique and fun design concept!

  17. I voted for semi-circular, and would love a crescent shape so it fits nicely around the neck. This is really fun!

I love semi-circle, crescent and rectangle. Triangles (for Me) are difficult to wear unless it’s a huge triangle or an asymmetrical. The ones I wear most often are rectangle followed by semi-circle/crescent.

I’d like to make a Faroese shawl … I’ve read so much about these, and the shape really intrigues me!

  20. A rectangle vote here… but any shape will do if it is cozy 🙂

  21. I voted crescent shaped. I am in complete agreement with those who have stated that the shoulder shaping is a very desirable trait. I have started knitting Stephen Flood’s Colonnade Shawl for my grandma and am very pleased with the way this shawl’s shape is coming together and how it sits on the shoulders and stays put, so would suggest you maybe consider a similar construction. I agree with the suggestion that a lace section could be used as a textural piece in the shawl especially given the voting results. This process is a very interesting one and I will be following along to see how it comes together.

  22. I didn’t vote since it seems rather late but the last shawl I made was shaped like the shield on Superman’s chest, so I guess that would be a modified triangle.
