I have so much exciting news this episode, and so much to recap after a whirlwind few weeks that I think it will take a few podcasts to share all my stories! Today I’m talking about a recent shawl design, sharing more details about our upcoming MKAL (with a lovely giveaway coming up to celebrate) and recapping some of the highlights of our Curious Handmade Country House Retreat (EYF will have to wait till next week!)

Show Sponsors:

Alongside an eclectic yarn range, which includes Hazel Knits, Icelandic Lopi & CoopKnits, we stock a carefully chosen selection of needles and notions. We’ve also recently launched ‘hand dyed by meadowyarn’, our very own in-house, hand-dyed yarn range. Working in our tiny dye studio, nestled in the Suffolk countryside, we are able to indulge our love of colour, producing complex tonal, kettle-dyed shades across a range of weights and bases. With regular updates our collections evolve and grow, inspired by the landscape and people around us.

AYS is a wool boutique specializing in hand dyed yarns and luxury fibres from around the world. You’ll always find a well curated collection of yarns and colors on the shelves and a friendly knowledgeable staff on hand. Some of our favorite brands include Hedgehog Fibres, SweetGeorgia Yarn, Julie Asselin, Shibui Knits and The Fibre Co. Today on the podcast I have one more peek forward at the EYF, which is happening this weekend, and then dive into a review of the latest gorgeous collaboration between super talented designers Joji Locatelli and Veera Välimäki. As a special 5th anniversary treat, they’ve paired each of the patterns in their Interpretations Vol. 5 collection with a custom colourway from a wonderful indie dyer. I fall in love with some of these very special yarns and try my best to narrow down my favourite patterns from the book. Be sure to listen for your chance to win a copy of Interpretations Vol. 5 in our giveaway!

On today’s podcast I’m continuing my run-up excitement for EYF. The Podcaster Lounge is always a highlight. As a podcaster, it’s really special to be able to chat with some of my listeners face-to-face, and as a podcast fan I’m thrilled to get to meet podcasters I enjoy and admire. I take a look at some new-to-me podcasts and some favourites, chat a bit about the mini market we’ll be having at the CHCH retreat, and share some stories from a special and much-needed day out in London with friends.

Edinburgh Yarn Festival is getting closer and closer, and I’m getting more and more excited. On this week’s show I chat about a few (okay, more than a few) vendors I’m really looking forward to visiting. You really need a plan to make the most of the EYF Marketplace! We’re also on a little bit of an embroidery kick here at Curious Handmade Headquarters, with our embroidery workshop last weekend, a special guest teacher at the upcoming Curious Handmade Country House Retreat, and one of my 18 for 2018 projects!

Today on the podcast, I share a little bit about some new designs in progress, some that are on the way, and two that were released this week! The new releases are collaborations with some of the most creative people in knitting right now: Anne of Little Skein in The Big Wool and her swoon-worthy kits, and the wonderful ladies of Laine magazine. Speaking of Laine, I also spend a little time daydreaming about a few of the gorgeous new designs in Issue 4.

 February 2, 2018 at 11:47 pm

“While we were dating, my (now) husband learned to crochet. The two of us worked together to knit a log cabin afghan out of just about all of my acrylic stash. We still have it and put it on our bed every winter. There are special memories to each bit of yarn as well as a wonderful memory of making the afghan.”

Today on the show I’m reflecting a little bit more on the “Word of the Year” idea, with some wonderful words chosen by some of our Curious Crew Members. I also answer some questions about The Handmade Sock Society, which will be starting in February, and introduce you to a fabulous charity effort fueled by the love of yarn and the power of handknit socks.
