Ch 224: 18 in 2018 Happiness Project Update & Ivy Over The Door Shawl

Today’s podcast is a nice chatty catch up…I have some updates about how my 18 in 2018 projects are going, including one I got to tick off the list this week. I also have a new shawl design and some Shawl Society news to share with you. I’m having a good time stalking a project that the fabulous Countess Ablaze has started as well as a few new entries on the fantasy knitting queue.

Alongside an eclectic yarn range, which includes Hazel Knits, Icelandic Lopi & CoopKnits, we stock a carefully chosen selection of needles and notions. We’ve also recently launched ‘hand dyed by meadowyarn’, our very own in-house, hand-dyed yarn range. Working in our tiny dye studio, nestled in the Suffolk countryside, we are able to indulge our love of colour, producing complex tonal, kettle-dyed shades across a range of weights and bases. With regular updates our collections evolve and grow, inspired by the landscape and people around us.

AYS is a wool boutique specializing in hand dyed yarns and luxury fibres from around the world. You’ll always find a well curated collection of yarns and colors on the shelves and a friendly knowledgeable staff on hand. Some of our favorite brands include Hedgehog Fibres, SweetGeorgia Yarn, Julie Asselin, Shibui Knits and The Fibre Co. You can find A Yarn Story on Walcot Street in Bath or online at www.ayarnstory.co.uk

Red Robin Shawl

The 2nd shawl of The Shawl Society Season III has been released! I’d like to introduce the Ivy Over The Door Shawl

There are so many magical moments in the story of The Secret Garden, and one of the most poignant of all is the scene where Mary follows the robin along the garden walls to the hidden doorway. It doesn’t matter how many times I read the passage in the book where she lifts the “swinging curtain of ivy” to find the entrance to the silent, sleeping garden, the thrill of the discovery never fades. I don’t think it is happenstance that this instant of revelation is instigated by the little bird. The Robin is lonely Mary’s first friend, and in The Secret Garden, making friends and coming alive are two sides of the same coin. Once she steps through that door, both Mary and the garden begin to grow.

The Ivy Over The Door is a bold statement shawl, with simple but impressive lace and texture designed to evoke the romance and mystery of the secluded garden. If you look closely you can see the twining vines and leaves of ivy and the weathered old door worked into the two colour blocks. This generous rectangular wrap is large but so easy to wear: an ideal shape for dressing up an otherwise simple outfit and perfect for wrapping tightly around you when the winds blow as wild as a summer storm on the Yorkshire Moors.

The sample was knit with Meadow Yarn Hain and the special colours that Anj at Meadow Yarn created for this shawl are still available as “dyed to order” kits and will be dispatched between 5 to 7 day.

Since these are larger shawls this season, I have made the mini KAL deadlines for each mini KAL about 2 months apart instead of one!

Maytham KAL ends 31 July
Ivy Over The Door KAL ends 31 August
3rd shawl KAL ends 30 Sept
4th shawl KAL ends 31 Oct
5th shawl KAL ends 30 Nov
6th shawl KAL/Grand KAL end 31 Dec
