Sugar and spice and marzipan mice….Knitvent 2023

After months of secret planning, designing, and late-night knitting sessions, I can finally introduce you to Knitvent 2023.

Knitvent is our annual collection of mystery patterns especially designed for gift knitting. Each year, I choose a theme for the collection.

The theme inspires the designs, sparks our imaginations, and helps us create a little world where we can all share related stories, memories and inspiration as we knit along together.

“In the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things, does the heart find its morning and is refreshed.”
― Khalil Gibran, The Prophet

That’s the spirit of Knitvent. Making little things to gladden the hearts of the people we love. Treating ourselves to some little surprises along the way. Sharing the small pleasures of the process with like-minded knitting friends around the world.

Savouring the sweetness of this special time of year together.

The Knitvent 2023 collection celebrates the sweetness of the season. Nostalgic candies and cookies and biscuits and cakes, piled high for parties or stashed away as surprises. Glasses that sparkle and fizz. Mugs filled to the brim with warmth and good cheer. Fancy confections that only appear in the shops for a few weeks of the year. Precious recipes handed down through the generations. Indulgence, food and feasting have always been at the heart of the holidays, and this year’s designs are inspired by some of my own favourite seasonal treats.

How does Knitvent work?

Inspired by childhood memories of advent calendars, hidden parcels, and all the joyful anticipation and surprises of the season, Knitvent is a cross between a holiday countdown calendar and a mystery knit along.

Each week, you’ll get a secret knitting pattern (or two!) in your inbox. Expect fun, satisfying knits and super-giftable accessories, as well as one grand, irresistible “count down calendar” design, designed to make the most of 24 mini skeins of yarn or your own colourful stash of scraps.

That’s Knitvent in a nutshell. A Curious Handmade holiday tradition. A way to make holiday gift knitting even more fun, especially if you’ve left it until almost the last minute.

Here are the key details you need to know:

  • You’ll receive SIX beautiful knitting patterns, including a large “scrappy” pattern ideal for using a yarn advent calendar, and at least one shawl!
  • This is a PRE-ORDER period, so when you first buy the collection you will receive a downloadable PDF info sheet until the first pattern is revealed.
  • Either one or two patterns will be released each week for five weeks. Knitvent patterns are released on Thursdays, starting October 26th and ending November 23rd.
  • All patterns will be written in the Curious Handmade percentage checklist™ style, fully written with charts where needed.
  • Level of pattern difficulty will be adventurous beginner to intermediate.
  • The patterns will be delivered automatically to your Ravelry inbox or by email if you purchase on Gumroad, so opening your message each week is like peeking behind the window of an advent calendar to see what surprise is inside!

The surprise patterns are the most exciting part of Knitvent: a way to invite a little extra magic and wonder back into a season that can easily get swamped by grown-up responsabilites.

But there’s more to it than just a mystery collection.

We’ll have plenty of community spirit and knitalongs along the way, with no pressure to finish each pattern as it comes.

Just sweetness, support, and sharing.

Many Knitvent participants find the biggest surprise of all is how much knitting they actually accomplish with the added motivation and focus of a lively community. Come join us in the Curious Handmade Ravelry group for bustling chat threads, real-time encouragement, camaraderie and lovely knitalong prizes. There will also be endless inspiration on Instagram as knitters share their works in progress and finished gifts with the hashtag #knitvent2023

This is always such a special time of year for the Curious Crew, when the community really comes together in a spirit of celebration, generosity, and warm friendship. I hope you’ll.  join us!

If you’re new and still not quite sure about all this, don’t worry.  I’ll also be posting a Knitvent guide and FAQ soon, which will have all the information you need to prepare.

And between now and the first pattern reveal, I’ll be sending more helpful resources and sweet surprises to my newsletter list. You’d be so welcome: just sign up below.

(There’s also a very special giveaway coming up as part of the launch celebrations, so stay tuned to find out how to enter!)
