Description

The Sunset Skies Shawl is the fifth shawl in The Shawl Society Season 4.

A spectacular sunset is a gift in any setting, but on the beach you are treated to twice the show. Light streaks across the sky, bounces across the clouds, and then multiplies itself, reflected in the surface of the sea. There’s an urgent impulse to pull out a phone or camera to try to steal a picture to can bring back home. It may be fun to try, but there’s no way to truly capture the magic of these precious minutes. The whole wide-open sky and the glowing waves seem to dance for joy. The colours constantly shift and change. Every breath brings a new peak of beauty, an unexpected and unbelievable shade of rose, a more brilliant gold, a deeper contrast of sun and shadow.

How can something so ordinary be so magnificent? The sun sets every day all around the world, but every now and then there is a sunset that feels as if it belongs particularly to us, one that we will remember for the rest of our lives. All we have to do is stand in awe and soak it all in.

Sunset Skies Shawl is crescent-shaped, and the fifth pattern of the season. This is a perfect stash buster, using 6 mini skeins or leftover scraps plus one skein of fingering weight yarn. This is a marvellous opportunity to play with shifting colours and shades. Garter stitch and some very simple eyelet lace sections make this an easy knit for relaxing evenings, while the fun short row shaping and playful stripes keep things interesting.
